It has been, well I actually can't remember the last time I did a blog update, but suffice to say that it has been quite a while. Lisa, as usual, has been pulling more than her weight and keeping the blog up to date on the Dutton family adventures. Speaking of Lisa, she has been her usual beautiful, positive, loving, generous self and Finn and I are lucky enough to receive a good deal of her attention. The rest of her time she spends enriching the minds and lives of 22 lucky kindergarteners and hanging out with her new city buddies, exploring different runs and farmer's markets around SF. We don't get to spend as much time together as we would like, but it makes our date nights and weekend days off together all the more special. I don't have the opportunity to take many pictures these days because of my work schedule, here are a few of my subject of choice.
Our schedules did line up for a week off together in February and we did a quick coastal camping trip down to Big Sur and Santa Barbara. We tent camped three nights, and stayed in a cabin at El Capitan Canyon one night. Our timing could not have been better as the one night we were in a cabin it rained sideways for about eight straight hours. Otherwise we had great weather, some fun little waves, and some much needed time together.
We've been lucky enough to have a steady stream of friends and family coming to visit and check out our new digs. Most recently for Lisa and Marci's birthday, we had the Pruett's in town with our newest niece Hailey in tow. Jaisy flew in all the way from Hawaii, Cathie surprised us all from Hawaii, and we had a great visit. We get to see my our niece and nephew, Aidyn and Hunter, fairly regularly and it awesome having them so close.
I'm currently finishing up the last couple of months of my intern year and in July will transition to full time orthopedic surgery training which I am looking forward to. So far this year I have worked in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Burn Intensive Care Unit, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Trauma Surgery, Vascular Surgery, General Surgery, Rehabilitation, and probably something else I am forgetting at the moment. I wish I had something profound to say about the transition from medical student to doctor, but it is often difficult to for me to see the "big picture" when all I can think about most days is the next time I can go to sleep. When I do have a chance to reflect, I realize that I have an amazing wife, a job that I find rewarding, and a loving and supportive family. For all of those reasons I feel very, very blessed. We love where we live, and on the rare occasion that I get more than one day off in a row, we try to take advantage of our surroundings.
