Hello all! I wanted to make a little post before we head off to Thailand. Last night was the grand finale of our Great Artists unit, a 7 week study of Eric Carle (the author & illustrator of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and many other loved children’s books). Of course this was all occurring amidst wedding planning, getting married and culminating on the eve of our honeymoon! Thankfully all went smoothly and the kids loved learning about Eric Carle and “painting on tissue paper”.
The kids spent the entire 7 weeks learning about their artist and integrating information about him into math, science, geography, literacy and science activities. My job began when their work was done ☺ To pull off the event we to moved all supplies, materials and classroom necessities into the back corner of our classroom (below) and covered all of the tables, shelves easels etc. with sheets to make the room look like a museum. The kids arrive dressed “fancy” with their families to show off their masterpieces.
After 3 hours of organized chaos we turned off the lights headed home and returned the next day to set the classroom up for school. Needless to say Pas and I had quite the morning shifting through cups of pens, and baby food jars filled with color-coded crayons! We are off to Phuket tonight and could not possibly be more ready and excited for the trip.
