minimoon / adios wedding diet

Following the farewell brunch on Sunday, Lisa and I headed up the coast for couple of days in Big Sur to decompress.  We both felt pretty exhausted, but caught up with about 14 hours of sleep Sunday night.  We awoke to a beautiful day on Monday feeling well rested and very happy.

After a lazy morning we headed to Nepenthe for lunch, great view and great food.  We started with an amazing appetizer that included a whole roasted Gilroy garlic clove along with pecan crusted goat cheese and toasted baguette.

Our friends Kelsey and Raleigh recommended the Glenn Oaks Lodge in Big Sur which we will now recommend to anyone who will listen.  Our favorite features included the heated bathroom floors, double sided fireplace which we could enjoy from inside or from out on our private patio, and the retro Jenga and Scrabble sets.

View of the room from our patio...

Apparently the world record for Jenga is 41 levels.  We got to 27 before I bumped the table with my elbow...

On Tuesday we made our way back down the coast and stopped in Santa Barbara for the night.
Lisa took me out for an amazing sushi birthday dinner at Arigato Sushi on State Street, another spot we would recommend...

...and the gluttony continued. A little Dom and some Sees for a nightcap...

We finished off the minimoon with a Cajun sausage Eggs Benedict and Cajun sausage omelet at Cajun Kitchen Cafe on Wednesday morning before heading home to SD.  My wedding diet, while halfhearted and unimpressive in duration or commitment, obviously came to a dramatic and delicious end.

  2. Maybe that is what we should do with our double-sided fireplace!! Turn our living room into a giant patio!! Ha ha... But seriously, the idea is awesome! Looked like fun.

Love the blog. Can't wait for more updates!
